Hanna Scholars Program
Of those who have been part of Good For Kids' work in LaCarpio, Hanna Monte was among the most dedicated and enthusiastic. For several summers, Hanna's loving heart and contagious smile defined the summer youth camp sponsored by Good For Kids. Those who joined with her in that program treasure endless images of Hanna surrounded by children,
joyfully smiling as she generously gave of herself: that was her trademark. As a student in the Somers High School orchestra, along with her sister Irie, Hanna was one of the primary movers in numerous fundraising projects that led to the construction of the Refuge For Girls in LaCarpio.
Sadly, after a year long battle against cancer, Hanna passed away on March 28th, 2011, at the age of twenty. We are deeply saddened by this loss, though remain inspired by Hanna's deep goodness and the heartwarming example of her unparalleled kindness toward others.
To perpetuate Hanna's giving spirit and dedication to young people in LaCarpio, we have established the Hanna Scholars program, which will fund the required costs of uniforms and textbooks for deserving teenage girls in LaCarpio, thereby making it possible for them to attend high school or vocational training. Our goal is to annually designate as large a cohort of Hanna Scholars as possible.
We invite you to join us in honoring Hanna by sponsoring a Hanna Scholar, either in whole or in part. A donation of $150 will cover the cost of a full academic scholarship for one year. However, smaller donations are most welcomed, and will be combined with others to create additional scholarships. All donations are fully tax deductible. Checks can be made payable to: Good For Kids, P.O. Box 566, Somers, New York.
Thank you for joining us in honoring the very special memory of Hanna Monte, while also giving the promise of a higher education to the young women of LaCarpio, about whom she cared so much.
